Watch a miniature version of the water cycle by building a model of your own.

  1. Take two jars of the same size.
  2. In one jar, place some sand and saturate it with water.
  3. Place a rock on the sand.
  4. Take the other jar. Place it with its opening matching the opening of the first jar. Tape the jars together so that no air gets in.
  5. Next, put the jars against a sunny window or other area that gets the sun.
  6. Observe what happens in the jars, and write down your observations on a sheet of paper. CLICK HERE to download a Word document with an observation table.

1. What time does condensation usually appear?

2. What's happening during these changes?

3. How does the sun and temperatures affect the process?

4. Write a summary of your conclusions.
