MATH MENTOR: Measuring liquid volume

For an introduction to measuring volume, go to -->>Measuring Volume

Liquid volume is the measure of how much liquid or gas or air a container can hold. Volume is measured in cubic terms ( 3 measurement: height, depth, and width).

In the United States, liquid volume is measured using the English system as follows:

FLUID OUNCE (fl oz): the smallest liquid unit. A cup contains 8 fluid ounces of liquid.

PINT (pt): contains 2 cups of liquid, or 16 fluid ounces

QUART (qt):  contains 2 pints of liquid.

GALLON (GAL):  contains 4 quarts of liquid
