Measuring liquid volume
In other parts of the world,
volume is measured using the
metric system.
In the metric system,
liquid volume is measured in
liters.
People buy gasoline, milk, and other liquids by the liter.
Remember that because we are
talking about the metric system, we must think in 10's
and multiples of 10!
When we
measure distances in the metric system, we talk about the meter as the
main unit. All other measurements relate to the meter (centimeter,
kilometer, etc...).
The main
unit of liquid measures is the liter, so all of the other terms will
repeat that ending (liter).
Bigger to
smaller
1 liter = 1
hundred centimeters (centi
means one hundredth)
1 liter = ten
deciliters (deci means 1tenth)
1 liters = 1/1000
of a kiloliter (kilo means one thousand)
